Oliver finished his championship and we couldn't be more proud of this boy. His handler; Judy Ellis did a wonderful job showing him. He's now home and doing great. We sure missed him! Way to go Oliver!

Meet Pinkk Snapdragon aka Mushu

We are the proud new co-owners of this beautiful little girl; Mushu. She's 3 months old and an absolute doll. I think she's going to do very well in the show ring! Her Dam is a full litter sister to BIS, BISS, Ch. Tupelo Sho Boat Tu China Tu (Boo). Her sire is GCh. Jasez Pinkk Vulcan God of Fire.

We recently took her to a local Pug gathering and she had the time of her life. We look forward to great things to come for this little girl!

This little girl doesn't have a name yet. She's middle as far as size. She'll be a small girl at maturity. Her dam is 13 pounds.

This is little Thumbelina. She had a early set back but she's doing better now after an episode with pneumonia.

We recently completed two breeding's. The first is between Arvay's Midnight Lullaby (Cricket) x CH. Coryrex's Shooting Star (Gordy). Gordy is dominant for black and can only produce black puppies. So any puppies will be black. Possibly some will also be dominant for black. This litter is due Sept, 2011.

Our next breeding we have completed is between GR CH. Pinkk Just One Look (Merci) x BIS, BISS CH. Tupelo Showboat Tu China Tu (Boo). Merci has had an incredible Specials career and earned her Grand Champion Bronze level. She is Co-owned with Karen Thompson of Pinkk Pugs and we couldn't be more proud of her! We expect this to be a very special litter!

A Pug named Stucky

I'm sure you are thinking why "Stucky"? It is a funny name I know and I can't help but giggle a little when I say it. Her registered name is Brookside's Sugarland of Arvay. Sugarland is a country band and they have a song titled "Stuck like Glue", thus where her name Stucky comes from.

We are so excited about this little girl! Her dam (Can. Ch. Windwalker's Sure Sweet Melody) is out of our Pippin and her sire (Grand Am. Ch./Can. Ch. Fantasy's Brookside Rack 'em Up) is out of our Mabeline.

Here she is! She is out of Arvay's Lonestar To Treasure x AM/CAN GR CH. Fantasy's Brookside Rack Em' Up. She was born via C-section and weighs 7 ounces. She's a singleton as she was the only puppy Tiggy was carrying. Isn't she precious?

New Litter coming

Tiggy had her xray and she has one (1) bun in the oven. So she will have a C-section. I wasn't surprised that she was only carrying one as she only had one her first litter as well. I can't tell you how excited I am! Though of course I'm nervous too. When you only have one you fret and pray that it will be a live, healthy puppy and that it will thrive.

We set up the whelping/puppy pen last night. Thankfully, hubby and my son were able to help as I couldn't remember for the life of me how the darn thing went together. My son loves things like those "K'nex" toys so he's a wiz at figuring out how to put things together. So it's all set up and ready to go.

All of my supplies are out and ready and the final thing I need to get is a tank of Oxygen. I'm hoping that she'll not try and have the puppy before her scheduled C-section. That might get a bit hairy. When a Pug is only carrying one puppy, that puppy can be too large to pass through the pelvis. Thus, the need for a C-section.

Merci did very well this past weekend in Marshall, MI taking back to back Majors. We are so proud of her! She is Co-owned with Karen Thompson and I can't thank Karen enough for sharing this beautiful girl with us.

Little Miss Tiggy (aka Arvay's Lonestar To Treasure) has come into season. She is the dam of Arvay's Midnight Lullaby (Cricket) who was a singleton. So we don't expect her to have a large litter. I will feel blessed if she has 1-2 puppies. In any case, our plans are to breed her to AM/CAN Ch. Fantasy's Brookside Rack Em' Up (aka Xander) whom we have frozen semen on. Xander is owned by Tania of Brookside Pugs and is a stunning little guy that I think will compliment Tiggy very well and the two of them should produce some darling puppies.

By now you all know how much I enjoy taking pictures. Ok, I admit that I tend to get pretty snap-happy but I can't help it. Who wouldn't want to take a gazillion photo's of Pugs? So anyway, the other day I was getting my camera out of the case it slipped from my hand. There I was stuck in this slow motion unreal state as I watched it fall and crash onto my hardwood floor. The worse part was hearing a crack and shattering sound. I swear that sound still gives me chills.

Fortunately, it was just the lense that broke and the camera itself survived. Just how I'm not sure. But thank the Lord for small favors. I know it's just a camera but it's an expensive one.

So today I dug out my other lense (thankfully, I had another). This one however is one of those long zoom lenses that makes the camera heavy, but I thought what the heck it's better than nothing. So off we went out into the yard to test it out. It was actually pretty neat to be able to take photo's from across the yard. Here are a few I snapped of Tiggy and Seven.

Pug puppies almost 6 months old

I was working with the girls a bit on the table today. I think both are turning out very nice. Cricket was difficult to get pictures of as she is a little BEAST! She kept biting my fingers instead of the bait LOL! Next time I'll bait her with something on a spoon to save my digits.

Anyway, I'm very excited about both these girls and while they haven't quite reached 6 months old yet, I'm already laying out breeding plans for them in the future. It can take some planning and I know for sure I will likely breed Cricket to Gordy. Gordy is dominant black so we'll get all black puppies. But also some of the resulting puppies may also be dominant black. So that is exciting. Of course this is quite a ways down the road yet. But it doesn't hurt to plan ahead (:

Ok, I took a few pictures today of Seven. Boy is she getting cute! She looks so much like her sire Gordy. Though I see Ingrid in her too. I love her head and she has nice bone. I also like how balanced she is. One of these days maybe I'll get a good profile or table shot of her. She's a sweetie. She's a bit more reserved than her sister Six, but she's coming around. I've been able to get her out more now the weather is warmer.

I thought I'd share some updated pictures of little Six. She's so adorable and petite. She is now 13 weeks and looking for her forever home. Her requirements are to have a home where she will be relentlessly spoiled, pampered and doted upon. She in return will offer to snuggle in your lap and lavash you with kisses, of which she has an endless supply.

Here is little Six. Yes, that is her name right now. Don't ask LOL! She's getting more fat on her now and has that solid feeling now when I pick her up. Sam is an adorable black male puppy that is 9 weeks old. He's going to look a lot like his sire Gordy when he matures. He has a gorgeous head, topline, bone, etc., but he's available to a pet home.

Oh, if you are wondering what's on his ears...that is medical tape. Sometimes when they start teething around this age their ears can go all wonky. So we tape them and that seems to do the trick so they end up with nice "button" ears that lay correctly.

Dominant Champion Black Pug

Well, we are suspecting that our boy; Ch. Coryrex's Shooting Star may be a dominant black. What this means is that he only carries black genes and can only produce black puppies even when bred to a fawn. If this is the case, this is great news! There isn't an abundance of dominant blacks around, especially nice ones like Gordy. So our plan is to have a genetic test done to confirm this. The reason we suspect this is due to the fact that he was bred to three different fawn bitches and has only produced black puppies in all three litters. I'll let you know what we find out.

I had hoped for black puppies when I did these breedings. Who would of thought my wish would of came true and ALL of them are black! Wow!

Arvay's Rikki Tikki Tavi gave birth to a beautiful black baby boy. Isn't he a cutie! He is our last puppy born until later next year. It will be nice to take a break for awhile. Hopefully, we will have a couple new black girls to raise and train for the show ring for late spring.

New Black male Pug puppy

We have a beautiful black male born on Halloween. He's out of Ch. Coryrex's Shooting Star x Arvay's Sugar Moon Lagoon. It was a difficult birth and unfortunately his black sister didn't make it into the world. However, he's doing very well and Bindy is doing fine.

I'm looking for name suggestions if anyone has any. He was born Halloween, so any ideas with that theme (or not) are welcome. I'm going to watch how he matures and then decide if he will be available to the right home.

New Cricket Pictures

She's starting to look less like a baby gorilla and more like a baby black bear LOL! Here she is at 5 days old. It's been a learning experience for me having a singleton. The biggest challenge has been the fact that with a singleton, Mom's milk supply is wonky (is that a word?). Anyway, she wasn't gaining like she should of been. Fortunately, thanks to the advice of a friend we are back on track and I think have overcome that challenge. For those interested, what I am doing is expressing milk from her Mom, Tiggy and tube feeding Cricket 2-3 ounces and then letting her nurse. This has worked and she's now gaining well. The hope is to get Tiggy's milk supply steady enough to sustain Cricket. But if that doesn't happen, then the next thing would be to at least buy her some time until Bindy's puppies are here and her milk comes in. The logic would be that Cricket could then sidle up to Bindy's milk bar and nurse with the other puppies.

Here are a few pictures of Cricket today. She is just too cute for words. One other interesting thing about Cricket that I've never experienced is that she doesn't cry. I mean literally. I've heard her make little squeak noises and what I would classify as a cry when she had her dew claws removed, but other than that she just never cries. I guess she's just very content. Now watch, Bindy's puppies will be screamers LOL!

New Black Pug Puppy Born

I'd like to introduce you to the newest member here at Arvay Pugs. She arrived this morning via C-section and weighed in at 6.3 ounces. Her Mom, Tiggy is doing very well. She's not quite sure yet what to think of this little squeaky black puppy but I'm sure she'll get the hang of it.

I think I've decided to name her Arvay's Midnight Lullaby and call her Cricket.

We also had Bindy's Xray done today and she is carrying 2 puppies.

Tiggy had her xray and just as I suspected, she is carrying 1 puppy. But one isn't a lonely number in this case as it looks like Bindy is carrying several. Being that these puppies will be born less than a week apart, Tiggy's single puppy will have "siblings" to play with and socialize with. Thank goodness for small blessings right?

I'm very excited, but very nervous too. I just pray that all goes well for Tiggy and her baby. She will be having a C-section since there is only one puppy in there as likely she wouldn't be able to deliver it on her own due to the size of the puppy. When you have a singleton, the chances are much higher that it will be a big puppy as it doesn't have to share the nutrients with others. So say a little prayer for her and the baby. The C-section will happen early next week. I'll update you all when I get a chance afterward and hopefully post some pictures. I pray that Tiggy will do great through the surgery and that this puppy will be born alive and thrive. That's all I can ask for at this point.

Here is the xray picture. Excuse the red light, that was the flash. Can you see the head (upper right), spine and little legs? I wonder if she/he will be black or fawn?

The other day we set up a new whelping/puppy crib. The round black thing you see on the flooring is what they call a "Whelping Nest". It keeps a constant temperature for the puppies. I love that thing! Much better than heating pads or heat lamps.

Arvay Pugs announces Tiggy is pregnant!

OK, I know I recently posted that I wasn't sure if Tiggy was pregnant. However, I'm happy to announce that she's finally let me know that she is. I think she is carrying a small litter and actually I expected that because of the history of her dam and granddam. But we are thrilled and can't wait to meet the little puglet (s).

Hi Pug fans!

I can say with 99% certainty that Bindy aka Arvay's Sugar Moon Lagoon is pregnant and we expect puppies the first of November. You can see by the photos that she's losing her girlish figure and gaining a bit of belly. She's 5 weeks along. So she has a ways yet to go. She was bred to Ch. Coryrex's Shooting Star. This breeding can produce both fawn and all black puppies.

We aren't sure if Tiggy took or not. This is the first time I've had a really hard time determining if a bitch was pregnant. Some days I think maybe and others I think that she's not. She's due the end of October. I'll have her xrayed just to make sure she isn't hiding one or two puppies in there. I'll keep you all posted (:

Watercolor Black Pug Painting

I just finished up this digital watercolor painting of Ch. Coryrex's Shooting Star and wanted to share it with you all and see what you think. Do you like it?

I'm new to Photoshop so it's a huge learning curve for me, but I'm getting better at it as I go along. I have used Paint Shop Pro for so many years it's hard to switch, but Photoshop can do so much more.

In any case, it started out as a normal photograph and it took me about 2 hours to add the colors, details and such. I like how it turned out. And it has that "Pop Art" look to it. I'll try a fawn Pug next time.

You know it's a bit rude when you wake up to find that someone has created what I would call a scam website, impersonating themselves as a breeder and using pictures of your Pugs and claiming them as their own. Should I be flattered? I know my puglets are cute but sheesh! Why do folks have to resort to stealing and using my pictures?

I'm not going to give these folks any additional exposure, but will tell you that if you come across a website with the name "amazing" in the URL and it looks like a Pug breeder...BEWARE. These folks have pictures of my puppies plastered all over their gallery page, available puppy page and they also have a picture of a girl that I bred, claiming that she is one of the momma's.

Here are a few of the pictures so you can be aware if you see these on any other site but mine, you'll know that it's a scam site.

Altering old Pug photographs in Photoshop

OK, so I'm a Paint Shop Pro kinda girl and am finding Photoshop to be like suddenly finding myself in a foreign country. So much to learn! In any case, I did manage to learn the wonderful trick of blending photos. Basically, you take two separate photos and blend them together. It's pretty darn nifty to be honest. Here are the results of my playing.

Planned Breeding

Well, my dear little Tiggy aka Arvay's Lonestar To Treasure has come into season. She's never been bred so we are excited about the prospect of her having puppies. Tiggy spent a lot of time out at the shows earning points towards her AKC championship. We tried for a very long time to snag one last major (3 point win) for her so she could finish her championship, but it just wasn't in the cards. Tiggy is a small, cobby little bitch that can be a little naughty at times in the ring. On many occasions the judge would come up to her at the table and she would be wiggling her entire rear end in excitement. Most of them forgave her for that as she is just so darn cute. However, a lot of her competition over the last year and a half consisted of bitches that were bigger, had more substance and better behaved. The judges over all either loved Tiggy or they didn't.

In any case, she's a champion in my book and most definitely has some wonderful qualities we hope will be passed on in the whelping box. She is going to be bred to a gorgeous champion male that I've been wanting to breed her to for awhile now. I'm excited and if all goes well, we hope to have puppies born late October. I anticipate she will have a small litter due to her size and her dam and granddam's history, as they too had small litters. As a matter of fact, Tiggy herself was the only puppy born in her litter. Honestly, I don't care how many puppies Tiggy has just as long as they are healthy. Even one gorgeous, healthy puppy (male or female) would be just fine with me (:

So cross your fingers and I'll let you know if this ends up successful.

Hello All! Sorry it's been a bit since I've updated the blog. I guess that's only because there isn't much to report these days. Our puppies all went to their new homes and right now we only have one of our Pugs out showing. Though we are waiting for two of our girls to come in season and when that happens they will be bred (one for the first time and one for the last time). So that will be exciting.

Of course I can't make an update on here without posting a picture! I think there is some unspoken blog law about doing that...LOL! So let me share with you a picture of Mookie. She's 11 years old and the Matriarch around here. She's our spayed "pet" Pug and truly the love of our lives. In her wiser years, she's getting a little slower, a little rounder and a little lazier...but none the less just as lovable as always. I pray we'll have many more years with her.

It's been awhile since I've posted and I apologize for neglecting you all. It's just been a whirlwind of activity here lately. Let's see...we planted our garden, had new carpet put in and of course taking care of the human children and fur ones too. So life has been busy for me. This past weekend though I said goodbye to the puppies, except for Tutti (Arvay's Tutti Fruity). Here is a picture of her standing pretty in the yard.

3 Show Potential Pug Puppies

Well, possibly anyway. These three girls are at the top of my list of our current litter. I really like each of them for various reasons. Here they are in no particular order.

Girl 1 (aka Pickles) - She has a short back, very nice bone, dark nails and so far her topline and front look very nice. She will lighten up considerably in the coming weeks.

Girl 2 (I am still working on a name) - I really am liking her as well! When I look at her she just seems overall well balanced. She has a pretty face, will have a nice light coat and great pigment! I also love her front!!

Girl 3 (thinking of the name Zippy aka Arvay's Zippity Doodah) - She is going to be VERY light coated with dark nails. She has great bone and looks the most like her daddy, Pudge.

It was very mild here the other day so we took some pictures on the porch of 4 of the girls. Also our little Tinker Bell has been sick. I think she's over the hump though and hopefully she'll continue to do well. You can see she's considerably smaller than her sisters. But oh is she the SWEETEST little thing! Lord help me....I'm getting attached. P.S. They are 6 weeks old today. It's amazing how much they continue to change. I'm looking forward to seeing what they are like in a couple weeks from now.

Just some fun pictures we took today. It's a milder day here so my 13 year old, Tyhari (TUH-HAR-EE) wanted to play with the Pugs in the yard. They just love him!

And here is little Miss Tiggy looking ever so radiant. She came home from the shows and will be bred this spring. I'm very excited as this will be her first litter (crossing my fingers). She's very petite and short backed. The sire I've chosen for her is simply GORGEOUS and he too is short backed and has huge bone and head. We should end up with some very nice puppies and I imagine a couple will be show prospects.

Mianda's Vanilla Pudge of Arvay and Arvay's Rikki Tikki Tavi are pleased to announce the birth of their 5 new daughters. The puppies weigh between 5.8 - 6.8 ounces. All are doing well. It's hard to believe we got ALL GIRLS! That is a show breeders dream.

We had Rikki's xray done yesterday afternoon and it showed 5 puppies. She then went into labor last night...go figure (: I didn't have her due until Thursday, but it was a nice surprise and she had such a easy birth. They were born between 1:30am and 3:40 am this morning one after another. She's such a good Mom too.

Pudge leaves this coming weekend to my handler and he has 7 shows coming up so I'm excited to see how he does. He's so gorgeous I think he'll do well.

I can't wait to see how these puppies look as they grow. I expect there to be some very nice girls in this group. Here are their first pictures.

A none Pug visitor

This fellow is sitting on some old fencing we have on the side of the garage today. My husband is slowing working on chopping it up and burning it in burn barrel. I'm not a huge fan of Possums. For the most part they are pretty docile as long as you don't go up and try and touch them. They do have some vicious teeth. We were within 2-3 feet of him and he was just sitting there checking us out.

Anyway, so I go outside to look for something out in the garage and my neighbor is out there feeding him Ritz crackers. You can see she stuck some in the fence for him. She's the sweetest lady, an animal lover and the best neighbor. I do wish she wouldn't feed him or he'll hang around and don't need our Pugs to think he's a new friend and playmate...these things can bite and bite bad.

I was trimming nails and took a few pictures of Rikki. She's due to whelp her puppies right around Feb, 20th. Her first litter in 2007 she had 4 puppies. I'm going to guess she has 3-4 this time. We'll have an xray done a week prior to her due date to get a count and make sure all looks well.

We completed a breeding to Arvay's Rikki Tikki Tavi and I'm a bit optimistic that it was successful. She is due later in February and starting to show signs that she's "with pugs". Rikki is a darling small female and I'm really looking forward to these puppies. I anticipate they will have beautiful heads, nice bone and small compact bodies. All the puppies will be fawn.

My imagination tends to see Pugs in a variety of whimsical situations. I wonder where these two are headed? Perhaps they just wanted to take a hot air balloon ride and see the world from a higher elevation? This is a mixed media painting done on a 15 1/2 x 12 1/2 solid oak cupboard door. The sheet music came from antique song books.

The edges have been sanded for an aged look.

I've been having so much fun creating these bubble charm pendants. This one I just listed in my Etsy shop and it's made from my original Pug artwork. I've made and sold several of these actually and wearing one as we speak. I've made the flat ones as well but these bubble charms are my favorite. I guess because the way they magnify the image and also they just simply "Feel" good to the touch.

Pug on a diet

Ingrid is on a diet and she's none too happy about it either. I noticed a couple weeks ago that she was looking a little "thicker" and decided she needs to watch her figure...much to her chagrin. I'm pretty sure she has been sneaking food as I caught her the other day trying to knock over the bag of dog food.

As you can see laying down she resembles a furry sausage. Shhh, don't tell her I said that or she definitely won't speak to me...at least until dinner time. So anyway it was time to cut the calories.
